When I spend my days in the company of birds and plants and earthworms, I am replenished. My gaze softens…my heart expands. The politics of nature is far simpler than that of the world. Nature insists on shared space…scoffs at the notion of “mine.” It makes no distinction between “us” and “them.” It knows that all must eat, and offers a feast for anyone with eyes. When the world is too much to bear, go to ground. Walk the earth. Behold the salamander. Weep for joy and embrace the innocent.
